Scholarship Pageant

  • Junior girls participate in one week of exciting activities

  • Coronation of new court is scheduled for Friday evening

  • Hoedown Queen and her court participate in approximately 20 parades and events throughout the year

Little Miss Pageant

  • Every participant will receive a goodie bag of treats and a little miss t-shirt

  • Little miss candidates will perform a simple dance routine at coronation

  • Winner chosen by random drawing

  • Little Miss Hoedown rides in the Grande Parade

  • Little Miss candidates will ride in the Grand Parade on a Little Miss Float

Sponsored by St. Mary's Church, Bingo is located in the Houston City Park

Musical Jamboree

Hootenany/Bluegrass - oldtimers and youngsters!  Excellent musicians all!  Fiddling, toe tappin', jammin', relaxin', down-home music in City Park

Boy Scout Chicken Fry

 Boy Scouts will be ready to serve their Hoedown famous chicken dinners at City Park.

Pie and Ice Cream Social

If you are craving pie and ice cream, you have the opportunity to have just that.

Tractor and Horse Pulls Draw Big Crowds

 

Hoedown Tractor Pull

Minnesota State Championship Horse Pull

  

  • Tradition since beginning of Hoedown

  • Light Weight - combined weight under 3000  lbs.

  • Middle Weight - combined weight over 3000 lbs. and under 3200 lbs.

  • Heavy Weight - combined weight over 3200 lbs.

  • Competition: Pulling a “boat” (a sled-like piece of equipment with weights added) for a distance of 271/2 feet.

  • Rules: defined by the Minnesota Horse and Pony Pulling Association.

Soap Box Derby

 The Soap Box Derby is a thrill for both the participants and their parents. On homemade vehicles, the drivers gain speed as they cruise down the steepest hill in Houston.

Kiddie Parade

 The "Kiddie Parade" is the first organized event of the three day Hoedown celebration.

The "tractor pullers" of the future practice their skills at City Park

A variety of  "kiddie games" will be at the elementary school playground

 

 

Houston Sign Walk

Meet at the Nature Center to begin the trek to the Houston Sign. Remember the history of this city landmark.

  Water Wars and Mini-Golf

These family attractions are sponsored by the Houston Lions Club. Not only can families have fun together, but the proceeds go to Lions Club projects. Try them out!!

  Softball

 Early in the morning and under the lights, teams from as far away as the Twin Cities compete in the annual Hoedown  Softball Tournament. The location is the high school athletic field

Pancake Breakfast

Pancake breakfasts are held both Saturday and Sunday mornings at the Community Center

Fireworks

The sky lights up on Friday night after the Coronation
